Clouds in Form: A Collaboration of Art & Design

In some homes, the scullery design is purely functional—even nondescript. Here, Aaron Mollick, principal and founder of Studio AM, did the opposite: He created a scullery so elegant that he spotlighted it in the kitchen.

“The arched nook was something we created intentionally as part of the kitchen expansion—we wanted to honor the home’s original northeast-facing arched window in the sitting room—so we echoed that shape with arched openings throughout,” he explains. “Keeping the window was essential. Without a door on the scullery, it stays open and airy, which means things can be left out without looking messy, and it doesn’t interrupt the visual flow of the space.”

Every inch of this space showcases thoughtfully curated design elements. A key highlight is the custom bar table, inspired by the fluid motion of clouds. Its form mirrors the gentle undulations of the sky, while offering an uninterrupted connection to the near-360-degree views. This bespoke design was conceived by Studio AM and meticulously handcrafted in collaboration with Flying Anvil Studios and Stephen Hirt Studios.


Stephen Hirt is renowned for creating one-of-a-kind designs for both private and public spaces. He collaborates with architects, designers, and clients to craft unique and diverse works across a variety of mediums. For this project, Stephen designed the cast glass countertop and lighting for the bar table.

Bart Turner, the artist behind Flying Anvil Studios, is a celebrated figure in the Pacific Northwest, known for his mastery in both glass and metal. His work stands out for seamlessly integrating these two contrasting materials. Bart crafted the metal frame for the bar table and worked closely with Stephen Hirt on the engineering and assembly of the final design.


The collaboration between Studio AM, Flying Anvil Studios, and Stephen Hirt Studios beautifully merges art and design, balancing innovation with functionality.
