After decades of design, project and team leadership, principals Aaron Mollick and Michael Troyer have formed Studio AM. The firm’s name reflects a commitment to personal relationships and collaboration. Studio AM is a Seattle-based architectural firm specializing in custom residential design and interiors throughout the US and abroad. Our work is guided by collaboration, creativity, and integrity.
We place personal service at the center of our process, connecting people to environments through thoughtful design. Our designs embrace functionality, enduring timeless aesthetics, and environmental responsibility. Aaron Mollick
Co-Founder, Architecture, AIA
Michael Troyer
Co-Founder, Architecture
Mike brings a wealth of design experience to a diverse array of projects, with a particular passion for creating contemporary and traditional private residences.
Focused on collaboration and meticulous attention to detail, he aims to deliver sophisticated yet straightforward design solutions for each endeavor. His previous involvement in international commercial and institutional projects has provided him with a thoughtful perspective on architecture as a reflection of a specific sense of place. In 1995, he was chosen to explore joint venture opportunities in Russia and served as a resident architect in Moscow.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Marketing & Management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 1981, Mike utilized his business degree for eight years in the healthcare industry before pursuing his true passion for architecture. He later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and Environmental Design from Ball State University in 1993.
In a nod to modern work practices, Mike’s K-9 companion, Lucy, joins him in the office every Thursday and Friday, serving as the office greeter and contributing to the perpetually replenishing stock of dog treats.
Danielle Krieg
Interiors
With over two decades of experience in interior design, Danielle brings a wealth of expertise to her residential and commercial projects. Specializing in full-service design, including custom furniture, decorative lighting, and art installation, she is dedicated to bringing her client’s vision to life in a meaningful and personalized way.
Danielle’s design journey began at the Art Institute of Seattle, where she honed her skills before embarking on a career that saw her contribute to high-end residential interiors at Kristine Donovick Interior Design and Christian Grevstad Interior Design. Her portfolio expanded to include interior design for high-rise towers at Weber Thompson, and she later established and led the interior design studio at Stuart Silk Architects, where she played a pivotal role in creating unforgettable custom homes for her clients.
A native of Western Washington, Danielle is deeply rooted in her love for the outdoors and family. Danielle is married with two children, a daughter and a son, and enjoys horseback riding with her daughter. Danielle’s family-centered approach to life and her love for the outdoors continues to shape her creativity, infusing her designs with a sense of warmth, harmony, and the spirit of exploration.
Jack DeBlauw
Architecture
Jack, originally from interior Alaska, made his way to Seattle to pursue his passion for architecture at the University of Washington, where he obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture. His interest in architectural history led him to embark on transformative study abroad experiences in Rome, Italy, and Chandigarh, India.
Before delving into architectural design, Jack honed his skills as a carpenter, boasting a lifetime of experience in the building and residential construction industry. Jack’s expertise spans various areas including design, construction detailing, building science, and accessibility. Jack’s dedication to his craft, coupled with his multifaceted background, underpins his unique and modern approach to architectural design.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Jack finds solace in the great outdoors, draws inspiration from music, engages in various home improvement projects, and cultivates his passion for gardening. These diverse interests and experiences inform his approach to architectural design, infusing it with a rich tapestry of influences from the natural world and the arts.
Jonathan Beech
Architecture
Jonathan’s journey in the realm of architecture is a fusion of artistry and scholarly pursuits. Armed with a BFA in Fine Art from the Columbus College of Art & Design, where he delved into traditional and contemporary printmaking, Jonathan’s creative foundation runs deep. His academic voyage culminated with a Master of Architecture from the Ohio State University, where he delved into cross-disciplinary models for figural architecture in his thesis. His academic pursuits also took him abroad to study Scandinavian architecture and early modernism, an experience that broadened his architectural perspective.
Jonathan’s artistic endeavors have garnered national and international recognition, with his work being exhibited in prestigious venues. Since 2014, Jonathan has been dedicated to crafting custom residential architecture on the west coast, leveraging his expertise to create living spaces that harmonize with the surrounding environment.
Outside the realm of design, Jonathan has cultivated diverse interests, mastering the art of sailing and mixing craft cocktails during his time in Seattle. Currently residing on his family farm in Ohio, Jonathan unwinds by immersing himself in nature through hiking and embarking on international travels with his wife and young children.
Kara Walker
Business Management
Kara Walker, a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience, serves as a vital member of the Studio AM Team, contributing remotely from the inspiring landscapes of Alaska. Her role involves the comprehensive management of all business operations, from daily accounting responsibilities to conducting thorough evaluations of the firm’s overall health. Her overarching goal is to optimize efficiency and ensure the successful attainment of all organizational objectives.
Before joining Studio AM, Kara made significant contributions at a leading Seattle Interior Design Firm and a prominent Seattle Architecture Firm. Her diverse background encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including purchasing custom furniture, managing accounting functions, overseeing human resources, policy establishment, compliance assurance, and the successful implementation of innovative programs and processes.
A proud graduate of the University of Washington, Kara resided in Washington state for over 15 years before embarking on a new chapter in Talkeetna, Alaska in 2016. During her leisure time, she indulges in outdoor pursuits such as cross-country skiing, ice skating, hiking, and swimming, relishing the vast wilderness that Alaska has to offer.
TJ Bandrowski
Architecture
TJ, a Pacific Northwest native, discovered his passion for architecture in high school while working on house renovations and providing drafting assistance for a structural engineer. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Architecture at the University of Idaho and later returned to Seattle to complete his Master of Architecture at the University of Washington. During his time in graduate school, he began interning at Soldano Luth Architects, specializing in high-end custom design.
TJ is deeply passionate about the art of design and the technicalities of construction. He takes great pleasure in collaborating with clients and a diverse range of professionals to bring each project to fruition. TJ values the opportunity to integrate sustainable and environmentally friendly practices into his designs, striving to create spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient.
Eric Vermehren
Architecture
Eric’s journey began in the Philadelphia area and led him to Western Washington in the mid-90s. His fascination with architecture sparked during a visit to his future mentor’s office while picking up plan sets with his dad. This pivotal moment in seventh grade set the course for his career. After high school, Eric pursued an associate’s degree in drafting and design at Renton Technical College. In 2005, he embarked on his architectural career as a drafter at Gerry Slick Design Group in Tacoma. Over the years, he transitioned to roles at Architects Northwest and later delved into the production builder side, serving as a drafter and architectural manager at Richmond American Homes for a decade.
Hailing from the northeast, Eric holds a deep appreciation for traditional and colonial architecture. His inquisitive nature, driven by a curiosity for “how things work,” fuels his passion for witnessing the home building process from design to completion. Beyond architecture, Eric finds joy in spending time with his family, fishing with his dad, engaging in sports, and unwinding on a warm beach somewhere in the world for at least one week each year.
Puck
Office Greeter
Puck is a loyal assistant to Lucy, guarding the office door when the humans are away. Puck has a sporadic work schedule but always arrives ready to work a full day. He greets office visitors and also frequently patrols the office in search of snacks.
Kobe
Office Greeter
Kobe takes his role as office greeter very seriously. Upon your arrival, he will give a friendly woof, but don’t let his size fool you. Despite being a big teddy bear at heart, he is quite convinced that you are there to see him and might have some treats for him too. Just be cautious because he’s always ready to give you a lick if given the chance. Kobe’s interests include cheese, fetch, swimming, napping, and did I mention cheese? Yes, he really, really loves cheese.
Lucy
Office Greeter
Lucy is an experienced office greeter with over 5 years of experience. She works every Thursday and Friday and enjoys receiving treats and affection from her coworkers. Lucy excels at her job by greeting every person who comes into the office and also by keeping everyone safe from the birds and squirrels outdoors by barking at them.
